Wreck Diver

Whether sunk on purpose as an artificial reef or the result of mishap, wrecks open fascinating windows to the past. Most divers find wrecked ships, air planes lanes and even automobiles nearly irresistible because they're intriguing to explore, exciting avenues of discovery, and usually teeming with aquatic life. The PADI Wreck Diver course teaches you the ins and outs of rewarding, responsible wreck diving.

Course Curriculum

Before the Program Begins

When you sign up for the course, we'll make arrangements for you to come into the store to pick up your student package which includes your learning material. At that time, we will also review the Required Forms and get you fitted for gear. We encourage you to pick up your student package at least 14 days before your course begins as you will want to complete the learning material prior to your first classroom session.

Class Session

We host the classroom session(s) at the store, prior to your ocean dives. You must have completed your knowledge reviews along with any other required course forms prior to your first classroom session. This is also a good opportunity to purchase any required gear for the course that you may not already own. Finally, if you haven't been fitted for gear or made your rental booking for your dives, we can take care of this during the classroom session. Classroom sessions typically run from 7pm to 9pm, however, you should check the specific course schedule for your program.

Rental Gear Pick Up

While most rental gear is included in our programs, you will still need to make a gear booking to ensure that you get the specific gear and sizes you require for your course. The earlier you make this booking, the easier it is to accommodate your needs. In addition, you will need to pick up your gear, the day prior to your ocean dives. We do not transport gear to the site. We are open on Fridays from 10am to 6pm and Saturdays from 9am to 5pm.

Ocean Dives

Finally, you are ready to head to the ocean! You will complete your dives at one of our local training sites. Meet time is typically 8am at the dive site, however, you should confirm this with your instructor at the classroom session.

At the site, you will be assembling and disassembling your own equipment before, after and between dives. Each dive is briefed and debriefed and logged and lasts between 45 minutes and an hour. The day is usually wrapping up by late afternoon and we return to the shop each day to complete our log books and change tanks or put away gear.

This course is often run in conjunction with a weekend trip to Nanaimo or day dives on the Annapolis. Trip fees are an additional cost to the course tuition.

Course Prerequisites

Deep Diver certification is also strongly recommended.

PADI courses are progressive and build on your previous dive experience. For all of our PADI courses, we require that you have recent cold water diving experience to enroll. To determine if you need additonal experience, select the option below which best describes your dive history:

I have been cold water diving in the last six months.

Great. You are ready to join us on this course.

I have been cold water diving but it was between six and twelve months ago.

No problem! Come out for a Local Fun Dive to brush up on your cold water technique.

I have been diving in the last year - but it wasn't cold water.

We can help. Join us for a Discover Local Dive experience to learn about the differences between diving in the warm water and local conditions.

It's been more than a year since I have been in the water.

We understand! Come out and get Reactivated!

I'd like to speak to someone about the best way to get ready for this course.

That's why we are here. Just call and we will help you choose the right first steps.

The Fun Part

The fun part of the PADI Wreck Diver course is visiting wrecks, unlocking mysteries and starting to gain the knowledge and experience that allows you to see things that others overlook. Sometimes, only the trained, experienced eye recognizes that a small hole or open door likely caused the vessel's demise.

Your Next Adventure

Many shipwrecks are often found in deeper water. That's why the PADI Wreck Diver course is a natural companion to the PADI Deep Diver course. Sometimes you can take these two specialties concurrently.

Other training to consider is the PADI Enriched Air Diver course on your way to PADI Master Scuba Diver.
